Hi, I’m Erika-Lynn, the founding member of Copy&Pattern. I wanted to discuss an event close to my heart and that has greatly troubled me. Let’s start off with the facts, shall we? My oldest of two children, Dorien, whom is 14 years old is a transgendered youth. I myself am bisexual as was my mother and her mother before her and I fully support folks for just being themselves no matter your politics, race, religion or sexual leanings. To each their own is my motto. Recently, a local parent and mother of Dorien’s best friend chose to pick up her daughters phone and write this :
"I don't want violet hanging out with you. You are depressed and confused, anti social, jealous and negative. Be scared little girl. Because I don't think you are a good influence only daughter. Come back to reality stop living in your fake computer world with your fake friends.”
There was nothing from my child to warrant another parent speaking to him this way. IF this parent had a problem, then she should have directed her words at me and not my transgendered minor. My response was this :
"This is Cyrene Dorien's mom. What you texted my child was unacceptable and appalling. You should be ashamed of yourself. He is 14, his father died and is transgendered and all of that this year. Karma a b**ch and I hope it bites you in the f***ing a**.”
I’m not going to say that my response was the most calm, but you do not mess with children. The fact that Andrea Hill works at Mill Street Thrift in a very LGTB oriented community is again, appalling.
"Look in the mirror! You're a hermit and you're creating a sad antisocial child.
"Its true and you and I both know it. You're poor daughter. What have you done to her?”
Let me make this statement :
I am a multimedia marketing designer and I work from home. I make my own hours because my children come first. I am their only surviving parent. Not only that but being transgendered, bipolar and suffering from depression due to his father’s death, what Andrea Hill said to a 14 year old boy was in NO WAY defendable. I WILL NOT be a part of any group who is not open and accepting, let alone grasps how to and NOT to treat minors.
Andrea Hill who works at Mill Street Thrift, you should be ashamed of yourself.
